Two Weeks in Belgrade

A Journey Through History and Flavor

Our two-week stay in Belgrade was a wonderful mix of history, culture, and exceptional food. We based ourselves in a comfortable apartment right in the heart of the city, giving us easy access to everything.

Despite the intense summer heat, Belgrade buzzed with energy. One of our first visits was to the impressive Kalemegdan Fortress, perched high above the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers. The views across the rivers and the city were spectacular, and the park-like grounds offered a peaceful escape.

We also visited the magnificent Church of Saint Sava, one of the largest Orthodox churches in the world. Its grand scale and beautiful interior were truly awe-inspiring. Another powerful site was the bombed-out remains of the Serbian Ministry of Defense, a sobering reminder of the country’s recent history and the resilience of its people.

Belgrade’s food scene was a highlight. We enjoyed classic Serbian dishes like juicy ćevapi, stuffed cabbage rolls (sarma), and rich grilled meats, all washed down with excellent local wines. The bohemian quarter of Skadarlija, with its cobblestone streets, traditional restaurants, and live music, became one of our favourite evening spots.

We also spent time exploring the vibrant neighbourhoods, wandering along the Danube, and visiting the Museum of Yugoslavia, which provided valuable context to the historical sites we had seen.

Two weeks in Belgrade flew by. The city’s rich history, warm hospitality, and delicious cuisine left a lasting impression. Despite the summer heat, Belgrade’s lively spirit and charm made our stay truly memorable.
