A Quick Stopover in the Lion City
Singapore was never meant to be a long stay — just a quick pit stop on our way to Thailand and a perfect excuse to enjoy some serious Yum Cha and Chinese food.
We stayed at the Temple Street Inn right in the heart of Chinatown. For the price, the hotel was surprisingly good. Clean, newly renovated, and in an excellent location. The rooms were comfortable but very compact — you had to shuffle sideways to get between the bed and the TV!
While we’re not huge fans of Singapore as a city, we were genuinely excited to be back for the food. With its incredible mix of cultures, Singapore offers some of the best eating experiences in Southeast Asia. Pork buns, Yum Cha, and Northern Chinese dishes were high on our list.
Chinatown Eat Street did not disappoint. This vibrant stretch is packed with street vendors and restaurants side by side. You can grab freshly made dumplings and noodles from the stalls or sit down for Peking duck and chilli soft shell crab in one of the proper restaurants. We even discovered a Vietnamese place and enjoyed a fantastic bowl of Pho Bo.
After two delicious days eating our way through Chinatown, we headed to the airport for our flight to Chiang Mai. That’s when things got interesting — AirAsia had cancelled our flight and forgotten to notify us! Thankfully, the AirAsia staff handled it smoothly and rebooked us on a flight to Bangkok, then onward to Chiang Rai. Since Chiang Rai was actually our final destination, everything worked out surprisingly well in the end.
Short, sweet, and delicious — that’s how we’ll remember our quick stopover in Singapore. A few days of fantastic food in Chinatown made the long journey worthwhile. Next stop: Chiang Rai, Northern Thailand!
