Ten days is the perfect amount of time to see both sides of Greece — the ancient mainland and the island dream. This itinerary combines the Classical loop (Athens, Delphi, Meteora) with the crown jewel of the Cyclades (Santorini), connected by a short flight or ferry. You’ll climb the Acropolis, consult the oracle at Delphi, stand beneath the rock pillars of Meteora, and watch the sunset over the caldera in Oia. It’s an ambitious itinerary, but each stop earns its place, and the transitions—from city to mountain to island — make the journey feel much longer than ten days.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Days 1–2: Athens — Ancient Capital

Day 1: Arrive, Acropolis Museum (€10), Acropolis (€20), Ancient Agora (included in €30 combined). Evening: Psiri district dinner.

Day 2: National Archaeological Museum (€12, 2 hours). Afternoon: Anafiotika & Plaka wandering. Sunset from Areopagus rock (free). Pick up rental car. Evening: prepare for mainland road trip.

Drive Athens to Delphi (2.5 hours). Visit the Archaeological Museum (€8) then the site (€12, or €16 combined). Temple of Apollo, Theatre, Stadium. Stay in Arachova for the night.

Driving time: 2.5 hours from Athens

Accommodation: Arachova — guesthouse double €35–60

Pro Tip: The stadium at the top of the Delphi site is usually empty. Most tour groups stop at the theatre. Walk the extra 10 minutes up to have the stadium to yourself.

Day 4: Meteora — Sky Monasteries

Drive Arachova to Meteora (3 hours). Visit Great Meteoron (€3), Varlaam (€3), and Roussanou (€3). Hike the forest trails between monasteries. Sunset from the Ambaria viewpoint. Stay in Kastraki.

Driving time: 3 hours from Arachova

Accommodation: Kastraki — guesthouse double €30–55

Pro Tip: The hiking trail from Kastraki village up to the Ambaria viewpoint takes 1 hour and is a beautiful way to see the rocks without tourists.

Day 5: Return to Athens & Fly to Santorini

Drive Meteora to Athens (4 hours). Stop at Thermopylae (free, 15 min). Return rental car at Athens airport. Fly to Santorini (45 min, €35–80). Arrive in Santorini, settle in Fira. Evening walk along the caldera to watch the sunset.

Flight: Santorini from Athens €35–80 (Aegean, Ryanair, Volotea)

Accommodation: Santorini Fira — 3 nights hostel €90–150 or budget double €240–450

Pro Tip: Check your bags at the Athens airport rental return, fly to Santorini with just carry-on. Fira’s old port is 580 steps down from the town — or €6 on the cable car. Avoid the donkeys (animal welfare concerns).

Days 6–7: Santorini — Caldera & Volcano

Day 6: Hike Fira to Oia (10 km, 3–4 hours, start 7:00 AM). Visit Oia’s blue domes and castle. Afternoon: relax at Ammoudi Bay for swimming. Sunset from the Oia castle ruins.

Day 7: Boat tour to the volcano, hot springs, and Thirassia (€35–60, 5 hours). Evening: wine tasting at Venetsanos Winery (€15, sunset slot).

Pro Tip: The Thirassia lunch stop on the volcano tour is the highlight. Walk up to the village of Manolas and eat at Rooftoto taverna for caldera views at half the price of Santorini restaurants.

Day 8: Santorini — Akrotiri & Beaches

Morning: visit Akrotiri archaeological site (€12, 90 min) — the Minoan Pompeii. Afternoon: Red Beach (free, 10 min walk from Akrotiri) or Perissa Black Beach (€2.50 bus from Fira). Evening: farewell dinner in Fira at a caldera-view restaurant.

Pro Tip: Visit the Prehistoric Museum in Fira (€7) before Akrotiri — the original frescoes are there, including the stunning Spring Fresco and the Boxing Boys.

Days 9–10: Santorini → Athens → Home

Day 9: Fly from Santorini to Athens morning (€35–80). Spend final night in Athens — revisit a favourite neighbourhood, have one last gyros, watch the Acropolis lit up one more time.

Day 10: Depart from Athens International Airport. Morning if early flight — last walk through Monastiraki if late.
