A Week Camping by the Sea in Caminha
Portugal’s Hidden Coastal Gem
Our week camping by the sea in Caminha was a dream come true — a perfect mix of natural beauty, relaxed Portuguese charm, and simple pleasures. Our tent was nestled in a forested campsite just steps from the beach, offering both privacy and beautiful views of the Atlantic.
Each morning we woke to the sound of waves and the scent of pine trees mixed with sea air. The beach, with its soft sand and turquoise waters, was only a short stroll away. We spent our days swimming, sunbathing, reading, and occasionally spotting dolphins playing offshore.
Exploring the town of Caminha itself was a delight. Its charming cobblestone streets, historic buildings, and ancient walls felt like stepping into a storybook. We loved wandering the town square and visiting the lively local market, where we bought fresh fruit, vegetables, artisanal cheeses, and warm bread.
Evenings in the square became our favourite ritual. We tried excellent grilled sardines, tender octopus with olive oil and paprika, and other fresh Portuguese dishes, always accompanied by a glass of crisp Vinho Verde. The lively atmosphere, occasional music, and golden sunsets over the Atlantic made every meal feel special.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, we often took peaceful walks along the promenade, hand in hand, enjoying the cool evening breeze and breathtaking colours in the sky.
Our week in Caminha was pure magic — a harmonious blend of beach relaxation, town exploration, and delicious local food. We left feeling refreshed, content, and already dreaming of returning to this enchanting corner of Portugal.
