Getting There & Getting Around

Arriving in Prague

Getting Around Czechia

Trains and buses are excellent for city-to-city travel. For the countryside (especially Bohemian Switzerland and South Bohemia), renting a car for 2–3 days gives you maximum flexibility. Czech roads are good and driving is on the right. International driving permit is recommended but not always required.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Days 1–2: Prague – The City of a Hundred Spires

Day 1

Start early with a sunrise walk across Charles Bridge. Spend the morning at Prague Castle and St. Vitus Cathedral. In the afternoon explore the Old Town Square and the Astronomical Clock.

Day 2

Discover the Jewish Quarter, climb to Letná Viewpoint, and enjoy a relaxed evening in Malá Strana. End with a riverside dinner overlooking the illuminated castle.

Pro Tip: Book Prague Castle tickets online and visit early to avoid crowds.

Day 3: Kutná Hora – Medieval Silver Town

Take a morning train to Kutná Hora. Visit the hauntingly beautiful Sedlec Ossuary (Bone Chapel) and the magnificent Cathedral of St. Barbara. Wander the historic streets and learn about the town’s silver-mining past at the Italian Court.

Pro Tip: Combine the Ossuary and Cathedral with a combined ticket for best value.

Day 4: Karlovy Vary – Elegant Spa Town

Travel to the glamorous spa town of Karlovy Vary. Stroll the elegant colonnades, taste the famous mineral springs, and explore the colourful architecture. Take the funicular to the Diana Lookout Tower for panoramic views over the forested hills.

Pro Tip: Try the local Becherovka herbal liqueur and the traditional spa wafers (oplatky).

Day 5: Bohemian Switzerland National Park

Head to one of Czechia’s most dramatic natural wonders. Hike to the iconic Pravčická brána (Europe’s largest sandstone arch), take a peaceful boat trip through Edmund’s Gorge, and enjoy breathtaking viewpoints surrounded by towering cliffs and dense forests.

Pro Tip: Wear good hiking shoes — the trails can be steep but incredibly rewarding.

Days 6–7: South Bohemia – Lakes, Castles & Countryside

Day 6

Explore the fairytale region of South Bohemia. Visit the romantic Hluboká Castle (often called the Czech Windsor) and wander its beautiful English-style gardens. Continue to České Budějovice or Český Krumlov.

Day 7

Spend your final day in the UNESCO-listed town of Český Krumlov — one of the most beautiful medieval towns in Europe. Wander the castle, take a rafting trip on the Vltava River, and enjoy the magical atmosphere before departing.

Pro Tip: Rent a car for these two days to explore at your own pace. The countryside roads are scenic and easy to drive.
