A more relaxed but still spectacular day. Hike to the stunning Tama Lakes with their deep blue waters set against volcanic backdrops, then continue to the impressive Taranaki Falls cascading over ancient lava cliffs. Excellent photography opportunities throughout.

Where you stay Night 3: Same comfortable base in National Park Village.

Pro Tip: Bring a wide-angle lens — the reflections in Tama Lakes are magical in good light.

Day 4: Waihohonu Track & Ridge Exploration

Full Day (6–8 hours)

Explore this beautiful trail through native beech forest and open tussock grasslands with outstanding panoramic views of Ruapehu and Ngauruhoe. A perfect day for reflection and wildlife spotting (look for kea parrots).

Where you stay Night 4: National Park Village (final full night in the mountains).
