Our time in Baku, Azerbaijan unveiled a captivating mix of ancient history and modern innovation, blending vibrant culture with stunning cityscapes. Arriving in the city felt like stepping into a place where the past and future danced together in perfect harmony.

Our journey began right at the gates of the Old Town, known locally as Icherisheher. The narrow, winding cobblestone streets were lined with ancient stone buildings, their weathered facades whispering stories of centuries gone by. As we wandered through the labyrinth, friendly touts approached us with offers of guided tours and souvenirs. Their lively energy only added to the vibrant atmosphere of this living historic quarter.

Despite the gentle hustle, the Old Town held an undeniable magic. Every corner revealed another treasure — the iconic Maiden Tower standing tall against the skyline and the majestic Palace of the Shirvanshahs, both masterpieces that beautifully showcase Baku’s rich heritage. The seamless blend of these ancient monuments with the modern city beyond created a truly unique experience.

We stayed in a lovely apartment situated just at the entrance to the Old Town. It was a stylish and peaceful retreat with comfortable furnishings and a breathtaking panoramic view from the balcony. In the evenings, we could sit and admire the striking contrast between the ancient walls of Icherisheher and the futuristic Flame Towers glowing in the distance — a perfect symbol of Baku’s soul.

Each evening we returned to the Old Town to enjoy dinner at local restaurants, savoring authentic Azerbaijani dishes like fragrant plov and juicy kebabs. As we dined under the soft lights of the historic streets, we couldn’t help but marvel at how beautifully Baku bridges its deep-rooted past with a bold, forward-looking present.
